Spider Pride

A Richmond education can take you anywhere in the world — and we love hearing from Spiders who are continuing their studies, kicking off an impressive career, or launching a new business. For example, Abigail Olvera, '12, is an economic officer for the U.S. Department of State — and her outstanding work in Cairo, Egypt, is being lauded during Hispanic Heritage Month.

After majoring in international studies, Olvera headed to Yale and then to Nepal and Senegal. Now she works closely with Egyptian government officials on macroeconomic reforms, banking, financial flows, and entrepreneurship.

This month, the State Department is highlighting biographies of Hispanic employees who are supporting diplomatic efforts around the world — and we couldn’t be more proud that a Spider is among them!
