Senior's Jepson classes and internship inspire career trajectory

There are innumerable benefits of a liberal arts education — here at Richmond, our students are encouraged to dive into a wide range of classes and pursue their passion projects

Leadership studies and political science major Sarah Milano, ’20, not only took advantage of a Jepson internship, but also was able to secure a Burrus Fellowship to support that internship in New Orleans where she learned about the U.S. criminal justice system. Her coursework and summer internship have opened her mind to new possibilities, and now she is interested in becoming a public defender. 

“Dr. Haley Harwell’s Leadership and the Social Sciences class gave me a lens through which to understand human behavior,” Milano said. “I realized my education could prepare me to serve the public good.”

We can’t wait to see what she accomplishes after Commencement!
