Spiders are no strangers to competitive opportunities — their tenacity and tendency to shine often place them ahead of the rest. We love sharing their projects and successes!

Recent alum Kristi Mukk, ’19, was one of the 13 first-ever women’s history interns who worked across the Smithsonian’s museums last summer uncovering stories of remarkable American women both past and present. Mukk, who majored in rhetoric and communication studies, found inspiration in women in the military and helped plan a symposium at the National Museum of American History.

"A common theme throughout my research and work at UR, as well as at the Smithsonian, has been the importance of connecting the past to the present, making history accessible by reaching diverse audiences, and acknowledging silences and gaps in historical narratives and archives," Mukk said.

Congratulations, Kristi! We’re proud you were part of the inaugural cohort!
