Spider Pride

While we’re pretty accustomed to bragging on our professors year-round, it makes us proud to see them formally recognized with our very own Distinguished Educator Awards. Created in 1975 to honor a consistent record of outstanding contributions to education excellence, the awards are announced at Colloquy, our academic year kickoff for faculty and staff.

This year’s winners represent the top-notch education at Richmond — just check out what some of their former students and colleagues had to say below!

-Javier Hidalgo, Leadership Studies. “I can always expect a thought-provoking conversation every time I walk into the classroom. The thing I love about his class is that the conversations are so moving … that they continue after class and through lunch.”

-Violet Ho, Management. “Students are appreciative of her teaching and view her as knowledgeable, relevant, well-prepared, interesting, and enthusiastic.”

-Nicole Maurantonio, Rhetoric and Communication Studies. “At heart, Dr. Maurantonio simply remains an outstanding educator, humbly and tirelessly dedicated to her students’ well-being.”

-Jennifer Pribble, Political Science and Global Studies. “Dr. Pribble’s classes equip students with the knowledge and abilities to understand, analyze, and tackle some of the most pressing challenges of our time.”

-Omar Quintero, Biology. “Dr. Quintero cares so much about his students. I have watched him get jobs and research positions for countless of my friends because he wanted to see them succeed. [He] has taught me so much about being a scientist, a teacher, and a mentor.”

-Doron Samuel-Siegel, Law. “Samuel-Siegel is incredibly dedicated to teaching. The amount of effort she puts into her lectures and assignments is unmatched.”

Congratulations to all of our new distinguished educators!
