UR earns its first gold global rating for sustainability efforts

Here at Richmond, we continually demonstrate our commitment to sustainability. Whether it’s through solar panels, honeybee hives, or everyone’s favorite invasive species removal specialists, we strive to be good stewards of our campus home.

Because of our efforts, we just earned our first STARS Gold rating from the Association for the Advancement of Sustainability in Higher Education, which is the world’s most widely recognized framework for sustainability performance.

“This gold rating is invaluable as an evaluation of past performance, as well as a baseline for measuring future sustainability efforts,” Director of Sustainability Rob Andrejewski said.

In addition to developing and implementing our first sustainability plan this past year, we’re also the first higher ed institution in the Southeast to match 100 percent of our electricity needs with a single solar power source. We look forward to what we can achieve next!
