Student-athletes' educational opportunities expand abroad

A hallmark of a Richmond education is the study abroad experience — and now our student-athletes are better able to take advantage of global educational opportunities, as well.

Through Athletics’ Global Leadership Immersion and our new EnCompass program, five Spiders are heading to Cuba this summer. Basketball’s Grant Golden, ’20, baseball’s Tim Miller, ’20, field hockey’s Abra Granger, ‘21, track’s Kendra Smither, ’22, and football’s Nile Harris, ’22, will hone their Spanish language skills while immersing themselves in Cuban culture.

“This is a really good opportunity and life experience that a lot of people don't get the chance to do," Golden said. "With all the time that we spend in the gym and on the court, the fact that [student-athletes] can still do something like this in a condensed amount of time and have this experience is really awesome for us and we are grateful to the University of Richmond."

We are so proud to support international education and all of our hard-working students who want to extend their education abroad!
