A Spider’s drive doesn’t stop after Commencement. Two recent alums have set their sights abroad — and we can’t wait to follow along as they embark on a yearlong program in Indonesia.

Out of just 14 U.S. students, both Emily Bradford, ’18, and Zachary Cain, ’19 were chosen for the Darmasiswa Scholarship Program, organized by Indonesia’s Ministry of Education and Culture in cooperation with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. Both plan to study the musical traditions of gamelan.

“Emily and Zack are gifted with a rare combination of serious musicianship, unselfconscious generosity, cultural sensitivity, and curiosity,” said their former music professor, Andy McGraw. “I am confident that they will make the most of their Darmasiswa scholarships and contribute to new and meaningful cross-cultural understandings of Indonesia.”

Congratulations, Emily and Zack!
