Summer is here, but those impressively hard-to-get scholarships that our Spiders know and love aren’t taking a break. Sara Hyman, ’20, was just selected to study Arabic in Jordan next year with the Boren Scholarship program.

As an initiative of the National Security Education Program, Boren Scholars study languages that are not commonly taught and then commit to working in the federal government for a year post-graduation. Hyman, an aspiring public health scientist, will study at the Qasid Institute in Jordan's capital city, Amman, and also volunteer with a public health nonprofit.

“Many people forget that biological security, equitable access to health care, and global health security are just as important as intelligence, or other more traditional views of international security,” Hyman said.

Congratulations on being UR’s ninth Boren Scholar, Sara!
