Being a part of the Spider Family takes on different meanings to different people — it means receiving support when you need it, developing lifelong connections, or even having the privilege of learning from a mentor who has deeply influenced many Spiders who have come before you — like accounting professor Joe Ben Hoyle.

Hoyle is a legend around UR — and not just because he began teaching in 1979. The Robins School of Business has established a fellowship in his honor, which will assume the name of the Joe Ben Hoyle Teaching Fellowship upon his retirement.

“Professor Joe Ben has impacted, empowered, supported, challenged, and loved every student he has ever taught,” said Heather Rice, ’02, who led the effort to fund the fellowship. “If you ask any of his students, both past and present, the stories of his impact will be different, but they will also end with the same conclusion: Hoyle was the best teacher I ever had and changed my life for the better.”

We’re thankful for our professors like Hoyle who make UR so special!
