We’re no strangers to headline-making Spiders — those students and alums who truly inspire and make us proud to be part of the Richmond network.

Laly Lichtenfeld, ’96, is one of those alums we’ve had our eye on for years — and now National Geographic has featured her in a newsletter highlighting its women of impact in honor of International Women’s Day. As a conservationist and National Geographic Explorer, Lichtenfeld works to protect Africa’s lions, leopards, and cheetahs in partnership with rural people.

“[These women] include some of the world’s brightest explorers, scientists, and storytellers and they join our trips to illuminate the world for our travelers and share their unique insights,” the newsletter stated. “Our experts have journeyed to the far corners of the Earth to document threats to wildlife and uncover mysteries of the deep sea, to protect fragile ecosystems and drive change.”

Congratulations, Laly! We admire your hard work and dedication.
