Richmond professors constantly encourage our students to push their boundaries of their research — and it’s because those same professors lead by example. And the result? Well, for starters, we (and our work) are pretty well known for earning prestigious fellowships.

English professor Julietta Singh is the latest example — she’s secured a $95,000 Frederick Burkhardt Residential Fellowship for Recently Tenured Scholars by the American Council of Learned Societies for her research. Singh will spend part of the 2019–20 academic year at Columbia University working on transnational queer and feminist engagements through interpretations of performance art, sculpture, craft, video, film and literature.

“The question of how to represent the threat to our survival looms large in contemporary art, literature, and performance,” Singh said.

Congratulations, Dr. Singh!
