While we get excited about sharing all things UR, we particularly love stories about our ambitious alums who are setting benchmarks and dominating their piece of the world.

We’ve told you about one 2015 alum before — Melissa Diamond — and now the nonprofit founder is the first Richmond grad to become a Schwarzman Scholar, one of the world’s most prestigious graduate fellowships. Students from around the world vie for this yearlong opportunity to study China's role in global trends while pursuing a Masters of Global Affairs at Schwarzman College at Beijing’s Tsinghua University.

Out of more than 2,800 applicants, Diamond and 146 other recipients were selected through a rigorous process designed to evaluate academic ability, as well as leadership potential and strength of character.

“As I move on in my career, I believe that an in-depth understanding of Chinese culture, economics, and international relations will be invaluable to any initiatives I pursue,” Diamond said.

We are so proud she’s the first Spider to represent us through this scholarship, and we wish her the best of luck in her next pursuit!
