Our students are exposed to incredible research opportunities alongside influential mentors. And when those mentors get prestigious recognition for their time dedicated to student development, we have to spread the word.

The latest award comes out of the chemistry department with Carol Parish, who is no stranger to awards, receiving the highest honor for a chemist at an undergraduate institution from the American Chemical Society. The 2019 Award for Research recognizes a faculty member whose research has been greatly recognized and aided in the professional development of students.

“This honor recognizes the best part of my job, which is mentoring undergraduates, training the next generation of scientists, and helping students achieve their post-UR hopes and dreams,” Parish said.

Since 2005, Parish has mentored 100 undergraduates in externally funded research within the fields of chemistry, biology and physics. She also serves as the director of the UR Beckman Scholars program, which provides scholarships for faculty-mentored student research.
