Spider Pride

The student-professor connection permeates throughout campus and is one of the contributing factors of a Spider’s future successes. When coupled with their persistent drive, our students tend to know no limits.

Brandon Johnson, ‘18, majored in business administration, and then not only scored in the 90th percentile of the difficult Chartered Financial Analyst exam, but secured a job at Vanguard, an investment management company. He attributes his success to his time at UR with driven peers and supportive b-school professors like Maura Alexander, who he says made a difference in his life. When he struggled in class during his first two years, Alexander inspired him to work harder.

“She always encouraged me to keep studying, and not to give up on the concentration,” Johnson said. “The curriculum that the Robins School teaches is so advanced, and you’re surrounded by so many driven and competitive people at UR that it fosters a drive within you.”

Alexander said she’s proud of Johnson and his work ethic. “You always want students to discover their interests and passions, whether it’s what you are teaching them or not. When they find that, and then put in the hard work to achieve their goals, it’s absolutely incredible. I’m so proud of him.”

We love hearing stories of these relationships and the mentorship that thrives on campus!
