The strength of Richmond’s academic programs dates back long before any of us set foot on campus. In more recent years, many of our athletic programs have continually earned recognition for academic success as well — the past 12 years, to be exact.

The NCAA recently recognized that success, bestowing the prestigious multi-year Academic Progress Rate (APR) on six of our programs. Women's cross country, men's cross country, women's track, women's golf, women's soccer and women's swimming and diving all achieved this prestigious public honor. What does this mean exactly? The honor goes to teams for academic excellence after scoring in the top 10 percent of their sports.

"We are proud our programs continue to excel academically," Vice President and Director of Athletics John Hardt said. "These APR achievements point to the overall academic health of our athletic program. Certainly, these academic achievements rest upon the hard work of our student-athletes, coaches, faculty and staff.”

We’re thrilled for our teams, but we can’t say we’re surprised. We know they shine in both their games and their classrooms. Congratulations to all of our Spider athletes!
