Spider Pride

We all know Spiders have a reputation for being thought leaders and influencers, so it shouldn’t come as a surprise when a U.S. Supreme Court justice cites one of our alum’s work. (That doesn’t mean we’re not proud about it, though!)

In her dissent to the Court’s 5-4 decision on the recent Epic Systems Corps. v. Lewis employee rights case, Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg cited 1991 Richmond Law alum Victor Narro’s 2009 co-authored study on wage theft, “Broken Laws, Unprotected Workers: Violations of Employment and Labor Laws in America’s Cities.”

Narro, an immigrant rights and labor activist, spoke at Richmond Law’s commencement in 2015. After the Court’s decision, he tweeted, “The right of people to seek redress of grievances through the courts is a fundamental element of American society. It must be preserved.”

The fact that a U.S. Supreme Court justice is citing a Spider’s work speaks to the caliber of students and alumni who are part of the Spider network. We’re so proud of Victor’s accomplishments!
