Lauletta becomes highest-drafted QB in Spider history

April 28, 2018

Spider Pride

Spider quarterback Kyle Lauletta is realizing his dream of playing in the NFL! He's now headed to the NY Giants after being selected in the 4th round of the 2018 draft. We’re elated but not surprised — after all, he reflects the exceptional quality of our athletic program and the strength of our student-athletes.

Lauletta becomes the first Spider drafted since Cooper Taylor was selected in the fifth round in 2013 — also by the New York Giants. Plus, he joins fellow alum Kerry Wynn, ’14, on the Giants’ current roster. Lauletta, a double major in business administration and leadership studies, is also the 50th Spider overall to be drafted, as well as the highest quarterback to be drafted in school history.

"We are very excited for Kyle to continue his career in the National Football League," head coach Russ Huesman said. "Kyle has been a tremendous ambassador for the Spiders and had a great career at Richmond. We wish him well in his NFL endeavors and we know he will continue to do great things throughout his career.

Since he’s a Spider, we all know his success isn’t limited to the gridiron. We’ve celebrated his accomplishments in the classroom while simultaneously excelling on our football team. But don’t just take our word for it — Bleacher Report shared our sentiment when they recently profiled him leading up to the draft.

We are so proud Kyle is representing Richmond on the national stage! Lucky for him, he already has a closet full of that red and blue!
