Alumni generosity elevates student well-being with new center

Spider Pride

We love that the University of Richmond is a place that makes the well-being of its community a priority. We also love that our alumni care so deeply about our University — and our students — that they often go to great lengths to ensure fellow Spiders have the best collegiate experience possible. So, we get especially excited when those two things come together. The latest example? A new center literally dedicated to student well-being, made possible by alums Michael, ’97, and Michelle Walrath, ’98.

Thanks to their lead gift through the Walrath Family Foundation, wellness initiatives and resources will be coming together under one roof. The new center will house all campus health care, including the health center and counseling and psychological services. But the offerings don’t stop there because the building will feature a welcoming light-filled public space, a health food café and patio, mindfulness and meditation facilities and services, and a venue for speakers and interactive learning focused on well-being.

“Mike and I hope the center will enable UR to become a leader in the campus health and well-being movement,” Michelle explained. “If we can do this effectively, we can graduate healthier and happier students, who have the potential to initiate a downstream effect on the health of our society.”

Thank you, Walrath family, for your support and care for our students!
