Richmond's record-setting quarterback stuns on the national stage

University of Richmond’s record-setting quarterback, Kyle Lauletta, has been one of the best kept secrets in the country throughout the last three seasons. But now he’s a secret no longer.

Lauletta’s talents were on full display on Saturday at the 2018 Reese’s Senior Bowl — resulting in our Spider being named the Most Outstanding Player. This honor puts him in star company with the likes of Cowboys’ starting quarterback Dak Prescott, who won the award in 2016.

After taking over in the second half, Lauletta wasted no time setting the tone. On the first play of his second drive, he let loose an all-too-familiar deep ball that went for a 75-yard touchdown. He completed 75 percent of his passes for a total of 198 yards that resulted in three touchdowns and led the South to a 45-16 victory over the North.

But any Richmond grad who watched the end of the game knows that Kyle wasn’t the only Spider in attendance this weekend. Peter Kelly, ’11, Reese’s associate brand manager, was there to hand over the award.

“On behalf of the Reese’s brand, I’d like to congratulate Kyle Lauletta, of my alma mater, the University of Richmond, on being named the 2018 Reese’s Senior Bowl Most Valuable Player,” Kelly said during the broadcast. Talk about Spider Pride!

Lucky for us, football is far from over for our quarterback. Next month, he’ll head to Indianapolis for the NFL Combine, where the best in football will show off their skills for the league.

We’ve enjoyed watching you the past three seasons, Kyle! And we’re looking forward to seeing your next move.
