Senior quarterback selected for top all-star game

It’s no secret that Richmond’s student-athletes are a determined bunch, so much so that they continue to elevate their game long after their seasons are over.

Case in point: senior quarterback Kyle Lauletta, who has accepted his invitation to play in this year’s Senior Bowl in Mobile, Ala. The bowl is the premier all-star game out of the top three showcases for NFL Draft-eligible players.

The Senior Bowl scouts had some competition, though. Lauletta was actually invited to play in all three of the top showcases, which includes the East-West Shrine Game and the National Football League Players Association Collegiate Bowl, which makes perfect sense after his final season. Lauletta became the first Spider since 1992 to be named the CAA Offensive Player of the Year after leading the conference with 3,737 yards, 28 passing touchdowns and 3,827 yards of total offense, as well as helping the football team rewrite their record books.

For Lauletta, football doesn’t end this month with the Senior Bowl. As 2017 was drawing to a close, UR’s record-holding quarterback was also invited to the 2018 NFL combine. Each February, the best-of-the-best in football descend upon Indianapolis to show off their skills in front of league executives and coaches. Lauletta now enters an elite class, becoming the fifth Spider in the past eight years to attend the event.

Congratulations, Kyle and go Spiders!
