Three juniors named Goldwater Scholars

We love Richmond in the spring! It seems like every day a new award or honor is popping up out of the ground — this time, for three students on the cutting edge of math and science research.

Juniors Grace Conway, Arjun Jaini and Andrew Levorse are the newest Barry M. Goldwater Scholars from UR. The trio snagged the country’s premier undergraduate scholarship in mathematics, science and engineering. (Congress established the Barry M. Goldwater Scholarship and Excellence in Education Foundation in 1986 to foster and encourage excellence in science and mathematics.)

Our students stood out to the Goldwater Foundation and were among only 240 scholars selected this year. The foundation identifies Goldwater Scholars based on academic merit, and they reviewed nearly 1,300 students.

Conway, Jaini, and Levorse also are continuing a nice tradition among the Spiders. Since 1990, UR students have received 24 Goldwater Scholars and six honorable mentions.

“The University of Richmond’s practice of support for undergraduate student research and faculty mentorship is what has allowed us to achieve this extraordinary track record,” said chemistry professor Carol Parish.

Lucky for us  they can all teach us more about their research when they present at the School of Arts and Sciences Symposium in a few weeks.

Learn more about their research.
