Seniors wrap up phenomenal run

Spider Pride

We’re not sad it ended, we’re really glad it happened.

Our men’s basketball team’s great run this season ended deep in the heart of Texas after falling to TCU in the NIT quarterfinals. Richmond finished the season with 22 wins, the most since the 2010–11 season when the Spiders won 29 games.

We have a lot to be proud of. We started strong in conference play, and fans loved watching our standout players in their element on the court — from T.J. and ShawnDre’ to De’Monte and Khwan.

The A-10’s Player and Rookie of the Year awards both went to Spiders, the third time in conference history that a single school has won both player awards.

Not to mention the amazing seniors who played for the last time as Spiders.

Among them, they racked up 78 wins, nearly 4,000 points, over 750 assists, and more than 600 rebounds. And two top-10 all-time scorers in program history.

And yet, the camaraderie among the players is what stands out. For those four years, they became a family.

“We love each other. This team was so close together,” Senior T.J. Cline said. “We truly have a love for each member of that locker room and want everyone to succeed in life, not just basketball.”

Congrats to the team for a great season, and best wishes for our seniors. Is it too soon to already be looking forward next season’s tip-off?
