Richmond Spiders sweep A10 player awards

Spider Pride

Our men’s basketball team is on fire! Today we’re excited to hear that Richmond swept the A10 player awards. Senior T.J. Cline earned the league’s player of the year award, and freshman De’Monte Buckingham won A10 rookie of the year.

These awards are no surprise to those who have been following Buckingham and Cline on the court.

Cline has won four Atlantic 10 Player of the Week awards and became the first player in Richmond history to win the Oscar Robertson NABC National Player of the Week award. He also tallied the first triple-doubles of our program’s history!

Buckingham has been equally impressive in his first year playing with the Spiders, netting three Rookie of the Year awards this season alone, and averaging 11.9 points a game.

This sweep is the third one ever achieved in A10 history, with Temple being the last school to do it in 1988.

If that’s not enough to make you proud, just remember this moment (pictured above) when T.J. Cline kissed the Spider after playing his final moments in the last regular season home game. Cline walked off the court one last time to our thunderous applause.

Now, that’s some Spider Pride! We’re proud of T.J., De’Monte, and the entire team!
